喜记 Hee Kee Desserts, Jurong Point Mall

The hype for desserts these days were waffles, cakes and tarts in cafes. But has anyone forgotten the traditional taste of Hong Kong desserts? If you're a fan of Hong Kong desserts like myself, you've got to check out Hee Kee - it's first Singapore store located in Jurong Point Mall.

Hee Kee Desserts is poised to bring to the masses a all-time favourite Hong Kong desserts served up with local twists. Definitely able to satisfy tong sui lovers with saccharine soups and savoury dishes.

Hee Kee - which means "treasuring happiness' is the newest kid on the Hong Kong desserts block. During my food tasting session with Hee Kee, I was amazed that they serves a delectable spread of 80 desserts, all hand-made by its in-house chefs. Yes you saw it, eighty!

An brief introduction about Hee Kee Desserts - just so you know the store is conceptualized by the team behind the popular Taiwanese bubble tea brand, Sharetea! I'm glad to be able to sample some of the best desserts at Hee Kee, here's the following mouthwatering dishes,

Mango Cheong Fun ($3.30 per piece) - Steamed spongy sweet-coconut infused skin filled with mango chunk. Common word heard at the first sight of it "Wah!". Yea, I was one of them. Wrapped nicely like a gift, look at how 'shiny' and silky those skins were? It's such a great combination, sweet mangos wrapped with coconut skin. Just thumbs up.

Be sure to use your spoon, high chance these 'slippery' skins will slip off your chopsticks!

Traditional Steamed Milk Pudding ($3.50) - Available both hot and chilled, this pudding were creamy and smooth. I'm not a fan of milk pudding but I've to admit that this was good. It didn't taste too 'milky' compared to the one I had somewhere.

Whole Coconut w Coconut Ice cream & Peanut Crush ($8.80) - It's indeed a refreshing dessert, filled with rich coconut ice cream and coconut flesh, topped off with crushed peanuts. This dish reminds me of the famous coconut ice cream in Bangkok, it tasted almost the same. It comes with a cup of refreshing coconut juice as well.

When it comes to coconut, I'm mindful as I always encounter hard coconut flesh. But on this point, I'm glad Hee Kee didn't disappoint. It was soft and smooth!

Homemade Beancurd w Gula Melaka ($3.30) - The dish name simply says it all. I like how the Gula Melaka syrup adds on a touch of sweetness. On the other hand, the bean curd wasn't as silky and smooth as I was expecting it to be though.

D24 Durian Sauce with Sago ($5.80) - It is made to satiate the cravings for fans of the King of Fruits. Creamy durian paste, topped up with durian flesh and a generous serving of sago. It was an interesting dish that I've never had before. The real durian flesh was distinctive and best eaten with the sago.

Overall, after having a few mouthful of the rich durian paste together with the D24 flesh - I was kinda beaten down by the excessive durian taste which turns slightly bitter.

Durian Pancake (From $3.30) - I'm always a durian pancake fan and this dish satisfied my craving. The durian pancake at Hee Kee is a hearty combination of rich durian puree and whipped cream, wrapped in coconut infused skin.

One thing I've to emphasized - the coconut infused skin tasted heavenly! Having it alone was already good enough, adding on the durian puree filling was just pure shiok-ness.

I like how slight whipped cream was added, it balanced the overall durian richness. On another plus point for Hee Kee, serving it in a traditional steaming basket definitely enhance the appealing scale.

These are just some of the signature desserts at Hee Kee and there are many more tempting dishes.

Liu Sha Tang Yuan in Ginger Soup ($3.80) - this is my first time trying a liu sha tang yuan, definitely unique. In this case, the one at Hee Kee fell short in my opinion. The liu sha taste was there but it's very subtle, the tang yuan skin was slightly hard.

Chocolate Molten Lava Cake ($8.80) - comes w a scoop of vanilla gelato, a more 'western' dessert in the menu compare to others. Note that waiting time for this is 20 minutes as they bake on the spot.

I was causally slicing it and the chocolate lava started flowing quickly. It seems very liquid. Overall, I thought it was pretty decent but unfortunately it wouldn't be in my 'to-die-for molten cakes' top list.
