Located at the ground floor of The Cathay, you'll find The Assembly Ground Cafe which is an extension to The Assembly Store which offers international fashion brands and accessories. It's a great place to chill out with friends with it's laid back ambience like cafes in Aussie.
People often mistaken The Assembly Ground and Assembly Coffee in Evans Road. Sounds similar in some ways but note that they are two completely different cafes. Coffee brews starting from $5.50 feature blends by local roasters such as Nylon beans.
We tried the Matcha Latte ($5.50) as we couldn't find anywhere which serves really good Matcha latte. The one at assembly ground was no exception either, it was 'powdering' where it itch the throat. Sunday Market's Matcha latte is the best till date.
For cakes, we go for Banana Maple Caramel Sliced Cake. It was a tad hard but overall rather moist and decent. Banana, Maple & Caramel goes together = Goodness!
Had 4 main course one from each category naming, All-Day Brunch, Pasta and Pizza.
Truffle Fries ($10) - Straight cut fries, Parmesan, truffle oil alongside with tartar sauce dip. The fries wasn't infuse richly with truffle flavor though. Otherwise, it's pretty pleasant.
Carbonara ($18) - Spaghetti, bacon, poached eggs & herbs. The ingredients may be simple as it sounds but the cooking method is the key to get a good bowl of carbonara. The cream sauce was rich in flavor, the poached egg brings it to a whole new level with it's yolk.
The Assembly Brunch ($19.50) - Scrambled eggs, salmon or bacon, wiener sausage, sauteed mushrooms, potato gratin, grilled cherry tomato and toast. Like the usual big breakfast you will usually expect in cafes. Overall, it's rather decent, nothing impressive.
Another main to expect would be Rosti Omelette ($14.50) - eggs, grated potatoes, bratwurst sausage, sour cream and herbs. Sounds quite boring right? For that price, I wish they would be more generous with the portion. Rosti was hidden underneath, easily covered by the tiny sunny side up.
Heard that it was homemade pizza crust so we decided to go ahead with Pulled Pork Pizza ($18) - basically slow-cooked pork, onion confit and herbs. Thin crust pizzas can never go wrong, pulled pork was well marinated and flavorful. Definitely works well for sharing.

Not all it's item are worth value for money, prices might be on the steeper side being in a shopping mall. Students from nearby institutions would probably think twice, I guess. Overall, a really nice place to chill out with a group of friends. The Assembly Ground would be one of my choice for cuppa in town! Or I probably get a caffeine fix here before my movies at The Cathay next time :D
