The Beast @ Jalan Klapa, Singapore

Big thanks to the Burpple community, I get to meet fellow burpple tastemakers at the eat-up session recently. It's nice to gather the hungry people and food is what brings us together. This is the first eat-up session I attended and it's at The Beast, a Southern Kitchen & Bourbon bar situated at Jalan Klapa.

The bar boasts one of the largest variety bourbons and has an extensive selection of American craft beers, bourbon & rye speciality cocktails. Besides dinner & bar offers, The Beast serves brunch on Sunday as well between 10am to 5pm.

Thank you to the staff at The Beast for lining up such a filling dinner. And so we started off with sides!

One of the bar bites at The Beast is Freshly-baked cornbread ($6), serve with maple syrup. I was taken away by this homemade cornbread, it looks firm and dry but I was clearly deceived. On my first bite, the corn bread melts within, it's so soft and moist. Didn't disappoint! :D

We were served 4 sides and one of them is Bacon Mac & Cheese ($9). It was overall rather decent but it would be good if more cheese is added. That amount served didn't satisfy a Mac n' Cheese lover myself.

Next, we were served with Pulled Pork Sliders ($16). Toasted buns packed with pulled pork, slaw and bbq sauce within. The amount of pulled pork within wasn't as much and three mini buns for $16, didn't really worth in my opinion.

For the last sides, we had Jack & The Beast Stalk ($12) - deep fried green beans with secret seasoning. It's tasty and addictive especially if you paired it with craft beer, great for bar bites. On the other hand, the seasoning is quite heavy which turns out a tad salty.

Moving on to the mains, one of them you can expect is Chicken & Waffles ($20). Buttermilk fried chicken served on top of crispy waffle drizzled with a bourbon maple butter sauce. It's food that warms your soul and puts a smile on your face. Highly recommended.

Blackened Pork Collar ($24) - fine beans, mashed potatoes, thyme & Garlic cream sauce. Overall, it was amazing and surprise the texture wasn't hard or dry. The tender and juicy pork collar goes well with the garlic cream sauce. Mashed potato could be better with a slight gravy or grounded pepper over it.

Here comes the highlight of the dinner, introducing The Beast Burger ($125). The mother of all burgers: 1.6 pound of juicy beef patty, 1 pound of slow cooked pulled pork, 1 pound of southern buttermilk fried chicken and a good serving of slaw, lettuce and tomato. Wedged between a custom-made 9 inch bun, served with a bucket of fries. Adequately feeds 2 stoners or 4 adults.

Take the beast challenge! If you're able to finish all of this in 30 minutes, the burger will be on the house. Please ask servers for more details, pre-order recommended.

As you can see, we are already quite stuffed from the heavy mains and sides. But a meal wouldn't be complete without desserts right! Here's Bourbon Pecan Pie ($12), home-made pie, fig & honey ice cream. It works really well together, best for a sweet tooth like myself. My fav among the 3 desserts served.

Next, we had Peach Crumble ($12) - served with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. It's pretty average but the sweetness was quite over bearing. It feels like I was eating fine sugar in the crumble.

Lastly, we ended off with Bacon Maple Glazed Donut ($5). Do note that this is only available on the brunch menu. Quite a filling dessert I must say, with a mini whole donut. I like the combination of bacon and maple syrup, a balance of sweet and savour. A mouthful of super sweet goodness, folks with sweet tooth will definitely loves this.

The Beast is also perfect for corporate events, product launches, birthday celebrations, D&D parties and more. Ranging groups between 30-300 with offering services to personalise your event. Full service catering for off-site parties is available as well, please contact The Beast for more details.

Thank you to Burpple and the people at The Beast for such great hospitality. The Beast is a great place to gather your friends, sip on some bourbon and be treated to some classic southern cooking!
